The Wipper breakthrough is the name given to the narrow and winding valley of the Wipper breakthrough through the Hainleite. It is also the namesake for a nature reserve in the Kyffhäuserkreis and in the Sömmerda district in Thuringia .

geography

The Wipper breakthrough is located between the Seega and Günserode districts of the Kyffhäuserland community . There the Wipper , a western tributary of the Unstrut , cuts through the Muschelkalk - Hainleite ridge . The state road L 2290 connects the two places in the valley floor.

The Schlossberg (353.7 m) and the Pfarrkopf (309.0 m) form the two boundaries on the northern steep drop of the Hainleite. Several small side valleys, such as the Ilmental and the Rabental , divide the landscape into numerous other mountain ledges ( Kohnstein , Mühlberg ).

Nature reserve

Rare orchid species can be found in the nature reserve

The 631.6 hectare nature reserve includes the steep slopes of the breakthrough and the adjacent plateaus of the Hainleite. It is a habitat for rare animal and plant species. The ground monuments of the Arnsburg and the Kohnstein are also located here .
