Düren is a district in the Stockum / Düren district of Witten . In Witten it borders on Annen , Mitte and Stockum , in Dortmund on Kley and in Bochum on Langendreer . Düren has belonged to Witten since 1929, before that the community belonged to the Langendreer office .

history

In documents from Siegburg Abbey from 1096, it is noted that Archbishop Hermann von Köln donated several farms in Stockum to the monastery. Several of these courtyards were located in the area that today represents the Düren district. When Düren was first named separately as Düren is disputed. Recently a certificate from Emperor Otto III. from 997, issued in ture , related to Düren. In 1220 a stone mountain is mentioned, which is apparently identical to Düren, in 1412 a Doeverde can be found in documents from the county of Mark . Between 1647 and 1929 Düren was closely associated with Langendreer. In 1647, a certain Johann von der Borch on Haus Langendreer received jurisdiction over the village of Langendreer as well as over the farmers of Werne , Stockum, Somborn and Düren.

In 1705 there were just six farms in Düren. The situation changed when the Siebenplaneten colliery began operations in 1733 . It originated in the triangle between Somborn , Kley and Düren. In Düren itself, the Ver colliery opened in 1836 . Wallfisch started operations. It was only in the course of the settlement of the collieries in 1850 that Düren received the status of its own tax municipality in the Langendreer office . Although from now on independent for tax purposes, other administrative tasks remained in a voluntary association with Stockum. In 1913 the old Wallfisch colliery was shut down by the United Hamburg and Franziska colliery . On August 1, 1929, the Langendreer office was dissolved and the almost 300-year relationship between Langendreer and Düren ended. Just like Stockum, Düren also became a district of Witten. The current border between Düren and Langendreer does not exactly correspond to the historical border between the two places. A small “remaining area” of Düren is now in the Bochum city area. Today Düren is a pure sleeping city .

Population statistics

Since Düren was first mentioned in a document, the district that is now part of Witten has been in close symbiosis with Stockum. At the end of 2011, Düren had 388 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). This made Düren the smallest district of Witten by far - in terms of its population. In 2013 Düren was merged with Stockum to form the new Stockum / Düren district.
