Vladilen Alexandrowitsch Trenogin ( Russian Владилен Александрович Треногин ; born August 12, 1931 in Kyschtym , Russia ; †  September 28, 2013 ) was a Russian mathematician and university professor .

Life

Parents, childhood, school days

Trenogin's father, Alexander Fedorowitsch Trenogin, was a craftsman, was drafted to the front in 1941 and died near Stalingrad in 1942 . His mother Eugenie Jakowlewna, née Michalewa, was the daughter of a priest. She graduated from Perm State University and worked as a history teacher. Trenogin graduated from school in Uzhhorod with a gold medal in 1950 .

Studies and PhD

Trenogin graduated with honors from the Mechanical and Mathematical Faculty of Lomonosov University in Moscow in 1955 . During his studies he attended lectures by the famous mathematicians Pawel Sergejewitsch Alexandrow , Alexander Gennadjewitsch Kurosch , Viktor Wladimirowitsch Nemyzki , Nina Karlowna Bari , Lasar Aronowitsch Ljusternik , Israel Moiseevich Gelfand , Alexei Ivanovich Markuschewitsch and Eugene Dynayevich , Nikolai Gurevich . Trenogin was one of the excellent students on his course. Among his fellow students were the mathematicians Nikolai Sergejewitsch Bachwalow , Michail Michailowitsch Lavrentjew and Oleg Vladimirovich Bessow , who later became famous .

After graduating, Trenogin went to the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology . Here he worked in a group with Vasily Sergejewitsch Wladimirow , Sergei Michailowitsch Nikolski , Lew Wassiljewitsch Ovsjannikow , Evgeni Frolowitsch Mishchenko , Nikita Nikolajewitsch Moissejew and Mark Neumark . Many scientists from the Steklov Institute for Mathematics worked at this institute for several years. 1960 doctorate Trenogin at the Lomonosov Moscow State University at Lazar Lyusternik with a thesis on Некоторые вопросы теории функциональных и дифференциальных уравнений в банаховых пространствах (German: Some questions of the theory of functional equations and differential equations in Banach spaces).

Offices

Trenogin was a professor at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. He was a leading mathematician at the National University of Research and Technology MISiS . Trenogin was a member of the Scientific and Methodological Council for Mathematics in the Ministry of Science, a member of the Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics and a corresponding member of the National Academy of Applied Sciences of Russia.

Works

Trenogin wrote several books and over 200 publications. His book on functional analysis, which saw several new editions, the last one in 2002, received particular attention. His book Theory of Solution Branching in Nonlinear Equations has been translated into German and English. Among other things, Trenogin wrote books with his memoirs and with memories of his encounters with many famous scientists, including a book about his memories of Andrei Nikolaevich Tikhonov . Trenogin was a co-author of the Encyclopaedia of Mathematics . Trenogin's research focused on functional analysis , nonlinear optimization , nonlinear operators , bifurcation and approximation methods for solving nonlinear problems.

Awards

  • In 2012 Trenogin was awarded the Order of Honor by the President of the Russian Federation for the work successes achieved and long-term fruitful work (Орден Почёта).
  • In 1985 he received the prize of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR for the best scientific work on the unification and standardization of steel and alloy qualities; third place.
  • In 1990 he received the prize of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR for the best methodological work for the creation of a course in the field of functional analysis for technical universities; first place.
