Life

Morath studied art history, philosophy and modern German literature in Freiburg im Breisgau, Munich and Gießen . From 1997 to 2000 he was director of the Salzburg Museum . After his doctorate he worked on the artists Regine Bonke , Uta Feiler , Max Weiler and Erik Niedling, among others .

In 2000 he was appointed director of the Angermuseum by the city of Erfurt . He tried to strengthen the profile of the collections, which had lost numerous masterpieces of Expressionism and Classical Modernism due to the National Socialist cultural policy , through targeted new acquisitions, including a painting by Carl Schuch and drawings by Friedrich Preller and Friedrich Nerly .

In 2005–2007 the Angermuseum was extensively rebuilt. The exhibition was redesigned under his direction and reopened in 2010. In 2011, Morath-Vogel resigned from office after disputes with the city of Erfurt and was transferred to the cultural administration.
