Woodburn (Virginia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Woodburn is a civil parish in Loudoun County , Virginia and is located southwest of Leesburg on Hogback Mountain . Woodburn Road, which is located between Dry Mill and Harmony Church Road, is the only relic that marks the location and existence of the community.

The ruins of Woodburn's Colonial Store stood north of the intersection of Woodburn Road and Forrestgrove Road until the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) overturned the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors' decision to leave the road unpaved and paved the road in 2000 spread and thus also destroyed the walls of the colonial shop. This action was very controversial. Many residents of the area, who were vehemently opposed to the asphalting of the road, believe that the VDOT's decision was influenced by a deal with property developers who owned land by the road but were unable to bring trucks onto the narrow and winding gravel road. An interesting aspect is that a resident of the street, a proponent of asphalting, was also a lawyer for one of the developers in question.
