Waterford is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County , Virginia and is located at Cacoctin Creek. The village is located in the Loudoun Valley about 6 miles northwest of Leesburg and 75 miles northwest of Washington, DC

history

Waterford was founded in 1732 by Amos Janney, a Quaker from Pennsylvania . It is named after the Irish city of Waterford , where some of the city's founders lived before they emigrated to the United States. The names Janney's Mill, Fairfax and Milltown are also known, the latter is said to have been used in the establishment before the village was renamed Waterford.

Before the Civil War , Waterford was the second most populous parish in Loudoun County after Leesburg .

Waterford is a National Historic Landmark and is listed as a National Historical District on the National Register of Historic Places .
