Hamilton is a city in Loudoun County , Virginia . At the 2000 census , Hamilton had 562 people.
Hamilton is about 8 kilometers east of its neighboring town Purcellville and about 10 kilometers west of Leesburg , the county seat of Loudoun County.
The town, originally called Harmony, began to flourish in 1868 when the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad ran as far as Hamilton. In 1926 a fire destroyed most of the city's shops and visitor numbers fell.
Today Hamilton embodies the term “small town America”. In June, the community celebrates itself as part of Hamilton Day.
