Bluemont

Bluemont is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County in the US state of Virginia . Bluemont is Loudoun's westernmost village and is located near the free town of Round Hill on the county line with Clarke County .

The county seat of Leesburg is 16 miles away, and the capital, Washington, DC, is 95 miles east of Bluemont.

Bluemont was founded at the beginning of the 19th century under the name Snickersville and grew only slowly during the 19th century. During the Civil War , a battle took place between Confederate Partisan leader John S. Mosby and Union forces near Bluemont.

Bluemont was the terminus of the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad . On July 4, 1900 , operations were expanded to Bluemont. The village has been touted as a cool mountain refuge for the heat-plagued Washingtoners.

Mount Weather , a US government overhead facility for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is located near Bluemont. It is believed that there is an underground facility in Mount Weather that the US government is supposed to house in the event of a nuclear war .

Nowadays the Bluemont Fair takes place annually in September. The fair offers visitors classic leisure entertainment, including traditional and country music. Artisans offer their handicrafts and antiques, there are also fresh and dried flowers, farm produce, and cooking and pickling competitions.

There is also the Great Country Farms in Bluemont, an extraordinary working farm that is open from March to October and has a large selection of fruits and vegetables that you can pick yourself. There are also special weekend events such as the month-long pumpkin harvest in autumn, when there are also racing pigs. Great Country also has a petting zoo.
