World Games 1997 / Squash

At the 1997 World Games in Lahti , two squash competitions took place from August 12 to 17, 1997 . Squash was part of the World Games program for the first time .

Ahmed Barada , who did not lose a set during the entire tournament , prevailed among the men . In the final he defeated Derek Ryan 9: 4, 9: 3 and 9: 4. Graham Ryding won bronze after a straight win in three sets against Mark Cairns . Sarah Fitz-Gerald also won the women's gold medal without losing a set . Her final game against Sabine Schöne ended 9: 2, 9: 6 and 9: 7. Leilani Joyce won the bronze game against Sue Wright in three sets.

In addition to Sabine Schöne, Oliver Kowalski from Germany also took part. No players from Switzerland or Austria did not start. There were a total of 15 starters for the women, the men’s field consists of 16 players.
