The Wym ( Russian Вымь ; Russian fem. , German also the Wym) is a 499 kilometer long right tributary of the Wytschegda in the northeast of the European part of Russia .

course

The Wym rises at a height of about 320  m on the western flank of the Timan ridge , which in this area reaches heights of over 350  m . After a short course in a north-westerly to westerly direction, the river turns south and flows through a wide, wooded valley with extensive swamps. There are rapids above the mouth of the Jolwa tributary . In the lower reaches, the Wym turns to the southwest and finally flows into the Wytschegda, the largest tributary of the Northern Dvina, at the village of Ust-Wym , a good 60 km northwest of Syktywkar , at a height of 68  m .

The Wym flows along its entire length on the territory of the autonomous republic of Komi . The most important tributaries are Worykwa, Jolwa, Poscheg and Tschub from the right and Koin and Wesljana from the left.

Hydrography

The catchment area of the Wym covers 25,600 km². Near the mouth of the river, the river is over 300 meters wide and over 1.5 meters deep; the flow velocity here is 0.7 m / s.

The water flow at Ust-Sada / Polowniki , 48 kilometers above the mouth, is an annual average of 260 m³ / s with a minimum of 63.8 m³ / s in March and a maximum of 1204 m³ / s in May.

Infrastructure

The Wym is navigable for 172 km from the village Bosch-Ju-Dor , below the rapids and above the confluence of Jolwa and Wesljana.

The area in the upper and upper middle reaches of the river is only sparsely populated. There is an increasing number of villages only on the navigable section of the river from the village of Ust-Wesljana . The largest place is the city of Jemwa about 50 km above the estuary. There the Pechora Railway Konoscha  - Kotlas  - Vorkuta crosses the river. The Mikun  - Syktywkar line, which branches off from the Pechora railway, crosses the Wym immediately above the mouth . Between the mouth and the Jemwa, the road from Syktyvkar in the direction of Ukhta follows the left (eastern) bank of the river.
