biography

Bertrand drove his first FIS races in December 1995, appearances in the European Cup followed from December 1999. On January 30, 2003, he celebrated his first victory in the downhill from Altenmarkt-Zauchensee , before that his best result was twelfth place. The following day, he also came third in the second downhill from Altenmarkt. Two more podium places followed and at the end of the 2002/03 season he took second place in the downhill classification behind the Austrian Norbert Holzknecht .

Bertrand had his first start in the World Cup on December 8, 2001. In his second race, the descent from Kvitfjell on March 2, 2002, he finished 28th and won World Cup points for the first time. In the next two years he was mostly unable or only barely to place in the points, it was not until January 2004 that he finished in the top 20 for the first time. At the end of the season he was able to improve even further with 14th place in the downhill from Kvitfjell. In the following season he was in the top twenty four times, the best result was a 12th place in the downhill from Chamonix . The 2005-06 season began with his first top 10 finish, a ninth place on the Lake Louise Downhill . At the season finale in Åre , he was able to repeat this result. At the 2005 World Championships in Bormio, he finished 29th in the downhill and at the 2006 Winter Olympics , he finished 24th in the downhill and Super-G.

On January 20, 2007, Bertrand achieved his best result so far in the Ski World Cup with fourth place on the downhill run from Val-d'Isère . Three weeks later he achieved 18th place in the downhill at the 2007 World Cup in Åre . In the 2007/08 season , his best result was eleventh place in the second downhill from Kvitfjell, but in 2008/09 he could no longer follow up on previous performances. He only finished once in the World Cup points and had to start more and more in the European Cup. He often scored again with places between 20th and 30th in the 2009/10 season . Bertrand was able to improve significantly in the 2010/11 season , in which he achieved the first top 10 results in four years with sixth place in the downhill from Chamonix and ninth place in the downhill from Lenzerheide .

At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he finished 29th in the downhill. In the 2011/12 World Cup season, Bertrand achieved further top 10 results as sixth on the downhill runs from Beaver Creek and Schladming and ninth on the downhill run from Chamonix. On April 12, 2012 he suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his left knee while training in Zinal . After persistent failure, he ended his career in January 2014.
