Ye Yifei ( Chinese叶一飞, Pinyin Yè Yīfēi, born June 16, 2000 in Shaanxi ) is a Chinese racing driver . He will compete in the Euroformula Open in 2020.

Career

General

Ye is managed by Mukesh Jani . Jani's son Neel Jani is also a racing driver and won the World Endurance Championship in 2016 .

Karting

At the age of eight, Ye began his kart racing career in China, where he won two national championships. Starts in Japan followed.

Ye switched to the European karting scene with the 2013 season and took part in the ROK Cup International Final. In 2014 he reached fourth place in the one-off event. Until 2015, Ye competed in kart races, apart from a second place in the Vega International Winter Trophy 2015 but without much success.

Formula 4

In 2015, Ye made his debut in formula racing and competed in the French Formula 4 championship . After a slow start to his first formula season, Ye continued to improve. In Navarre , he also had his first win in a monoposto . With a second win in Paul Ricard , he was finally able to finish the season in twelfth place overall.

From the third race in 2015 , Ye also competed in the Italian Formula 4 for RB Motorsport . With a podium in Misano , he finished the season in 21st place overall.

Ye completed his second French Formula 4 season as a champion. He won 14 of the first 17 races of the season. At the end of the season, 143 points separated him from second in the overall standings. He became the first Chinese to win a European championship title in formula racing.

In addition to his title in French Formula 4, he again competed for Mücke Motorsport in Italian Formula 4, where he finished tenth overall with two podiums, although he only started in 17 of the 23 races.

Formula Renault

In the 2017 season, Ye switched to the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup , where he competed for the German team Josef Kaufmann Racing . He finished the season in eighth place and was able to achieve a total of three podium places.

In addition to the Eurocup, Ye competed for the same team in four races of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC Cup , of which he won two races and made it onto the podium twice.

It started again for Kaufmann in 2018. While Ye was able to fight for the title in the first half of the season, he had to admit defeat to the two Renault juniors Christian Lundgaard and Max Fewtrell towards the end . With two victories, however, he secured third place, making him the first Chinese driver to win a race in the Eurocup.

During his successful Eurocup season, Ye announced that he had turned down several offers from Formula 1 junior teams and was waiting for the right moment to take such a step.

As part of the Grand Prix of China in 2019 Ye was a member of the Renault Sport confirmed -Academy.

Formula 3

After a guest start at the Asian Formula 3 Championship in Sepang 2018, Ye was confirmed as a driver for the Chinese Absolute Racing team in the winter series of the Asian Formula 3 Championship. He lost to Rinus Veekay at the season finale in Sepang and was runner-up. With the exception of the first and last races of the championship, Ye was able to finish every race in one of the first two positions.

In 2019 , Ye competed with Hitech GP in the FIA Formula 3 Championship , but could not follow on from the successes in previous categories. He finished the season in 21st place overall, only in the last race in Sochi with a sixth place to score.

In 2020 Ye for Motorpark will start under the name Crypto Tower Racing in the Euroformula Open . Before the 2020 season, he was removed from the Renault Sport Academy's junior squad because he could not convince in the FIA ​​Formula 3 championship.
