Yemane Haileselassie (born February 21, 1998 in Hazega , Maekel ) is an Eritrean athlete who competes in cross and obstacle courses .
Athletic career
Yemane Haileselassie has been competing in international championships since he was 17 years old. In March he took part in the World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang. In the junior race he finished 23rd and won the bronze medal with his teammates in the team. He later competed in the obstacle course at the Africa Games in Brazzaville. With a season best of 8: 32.05 min, he took sixth place.
In July 2016 he competed at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz. In the final he ran 8: 22.67 minutes and became vice world champion. He then also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. There he survived the semi-finals and finished eleventh in the final.
In June 2017, Haileselassie set his personal best in 8: 11.22 minutes at a meeting in Rome and thus clearly undercut the national record already set in 2016. At the World Championships in London, he lagged well behind this time and was eliminated in the run-up. In 2018 he competed at the African Championships in Asaba. He was fifth in the obstacle course. Over the 5000 meters he was able to win the bronze medal in 13: 49.58 minutes.
In the 2018 and 2019 seasons he was unable to confirm his best times in the obstacle course and also failed in the preliminary run at the World Championships in Doha. At the Africa Games in Rabat he was disqualified.
