You Can't Hurry Love is a pop song by the Holland-Dozier-Holland producer team from 1966, which first became famous for its interpretation of the Supremes . The 1982 version by Phil Collins was as successful as the original. The text is based on the wisdom of mothers who explain to their children that love cannot be forced.

The song was recorded on July 11, 1966 by the Supremes; Diana Ross sang lead vocals . The first recording is 2:47 minutes long and appeared on July 25, 1966 on the album The Supremes A Go-Go produced by Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier . The song was released as a second single by Motown Records . The recording of the Supremes was a number one hit in the United States from September 4 to 17, 1966 . This hit supported the band's career success.

In 1982 Phil Collins re-recorded the classic. Its version was released worldwide in October 1982 and became a number one hit in the UK , Ireland and the Netherlands .
