Yu Yang ( Chinese  于 洋 , Pinyin Yū Yáng ; born April 7, 1986 in Haicheng , Liaoning Province ) is a Chinese badminton player .

Career

In 2004, Yu Yang was in the double finals at the Asian Championships and won silver, two years later she won the same event. At the 2006 World Championships she was runner-up in women's doubles. In 2007 she was in the finals of the women's doubles at the Thailand Open , German Open and Indonesia Open . The latter tournament, one of the top events of the BWF Super Series , she was able to finish as the winner. The 2007 Badminton World Championship was anything but ideal for Yu Yang. She had to cancel the women's doubles, seeded number 4, in the first game, and in mixed she and her partner He Hanbin lost to the Poles Robert Mateusiak and Nadieżda Kostiuczyk in the round of 16.

On August 16, Yu Yang won with her partner Du Jing the finals in women's doubles of badminton tournament of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing against the pairing young Hyo-Lee and Lee Kyung-won of South Korea . On August 17, 2008 Yu Yang played with her partner He Hanbin against the Indonesian pairing Vita Marissa and Flandy Limpele for the Olympic bronze medal in mixed. They won the game in 73 minutes 19-21, 21-17 and 23-21. In 2011 she became world champion in women's doubles.

In 2013, Yu Yang and her partner Wang Xiaoli reached the final in the women's doubles of the Indonesia Open , which was lost in three sets to the Chinese pairing Cheng Shu and Bao Yixin .

Match fixing at the 2012 Olympics

At the 2012 Olympic Games , she and her partner Wang Xiaoli were disqualified from the Games by the World Federation for match-fixing. In the last group game, the two clearly did not show the will to want to win the game, as they would have met supposedly weaker opponents if they were defeated in the subsequent knockout round.

Due to this disqualification, Yu Yang declared her sports career ended on August 2, 2012. However, she later resigned and started again in the women's doubles.
