Zala Meršnik (born June 7, 2001 in Maribor ) is a Slovenian soccer player . At the age of 16, she is one of the youngest debutants in the Slovenian national team.

Career

Meršnik started her career in 2008 at ŽNK Maribor; in the summer of 2014 she moved to the U-15 of the NK Pobrežje Maribor. After six months she left Pobrežje, went to U-15 at ŽNK Rudar Škale and in summer 2015 to ŽNK Teleing Pomorje Beltinci. There she made her debut on August 16, 2017 at the age of 16 in a 12-0 victory for her club ŽNK Teleing GMT Beltinci over ŽNK Ajdovščina Primorje . On June 17, 2019 Meršnik moved to the German women's Bundesliga , where she signed with 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam .

International

In October 2016 she was appointed to the U-17 of Slovenia and made her debut for the U-17 of Slovenia on October 20, 2016 against England. She played eight U-17 internationals for Slovenia by October 2017. Around a year later, in October 2017, she was appointed to the Slovenian senior national team for the first time. She made her senior national team debut in the Slovenian women 's national team on October 20, 2017 at the age of 16 , in a 4-0 defeat by the Czech Republic.

She has been part of Gazprom's Football for Friendship campaign since 2017 .
