history

Finds of mineral resources in the Zeestower Feldmark indicate a settlement from 600 BC. Chr. The village of Zcestow is first mentioned in 1346 . The place name indicates a settlement that was historically founded by Slavs . According to Reinhard E. Fischer , the name is derived from the personal name "Tschest" and refers to a former village chief or the village founder. Other sources derive the place name from the word "cesta" for "street" and make a reference to an old trade route on which Zeestow is said to have been.

According to the records in the castle register from 1450, the village of Zeestow was then owned by the von Broesigke family . In 1840 Zeestow had two manors , 23 houses and a total of 268 inhabitants. In the summer of 1847, Zeestow was destroyed in a village fire, and the village church and school building also burned down. The current village church was built during the reconstruction of Zeestow in 1850.

After the Second World War , the lords of Zeestow were expropriated as part of the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone, the land was re-parceled out and divided among 94 new farmers . Until July 25, 1952, Zeestow belonged to the Osthavelland district , until 1946 in the Prussian province of Brandenburg and then in the state of Brandenburg of the Soviet occupation zone and the later GDR . Since 1952 Zeestow belonged to the Nauen district in the Potsdam district . On April 1, 1960, Zeestow was incorporated into Brieselang, only three years later, on September 1, 1963, the place regained its communal independence. After reunification, Zeestow initially belonged to the Nauen district , and since December 6, 1993, the place has been in the Havelland district .

On October 26, 2003 Zeestow was incorporated into Brieselang together with the neighboring municipality of Bredow . The village church was converted into a motorway church in 2014 and rededicated on June 22, 2014, making it the first motorway church on the Berliner Ring.
