Zipari ( Greek Ζηπάρι ( n. Sg. )) Is a small town on the Greek island of Kos .

Location, geography, traffic

Zipari is located directly on the main road connecting Kos and Kefalos to about 35 meters above sea level. Zipari is around seven kilometers west of the city of Kos. It is about 14 kilometers as the crow flies to Kos Airport near Andimachia . In the east the next place is Kos, in the west the places Marmari , Linopotis and Tigaki , further in the south-west Pyli and in the south the mountain village Zia . It is around 1.5 kilometers as the crow flies from the center of Zipari to the sea, and around 2.5 kilometers to the salt water lake Alykes .

Zipari is well connected by bus lines with Kos and Kefalos and the places in between.

Population and political structure, economy

Zipari belongs to the municipality of Dikeos ( Δημοτική Ενότητα Δικαίου ) which was home to 7,130 people (2011). The district of Dikeos is divided into two districts (Asfendiou and Pyli) with eight places. 4094 people (2011) lived within the Asfendiou district (Δημοτική Κοινότητα Ασφενδιού), 3227 of them in Zipari (around 80%), making it the second largest town on the island of Kos.

Zipari is a modern small town-like unit with an up-and-coming economy, which forms an interesting counterpoint to the town of Kos.
