Tigaki ( Greek Τιγκάκι ( n. Sg. )) Is a small place on the Greek island of Kos , which is located directly on the sea.
Location, geography, traffic
Tigaki lies about 10 km straight line west of the city of Kos to about 0 to 15 meters above sea level. Tigaki is 1.5 kilometers by road from the island's main road, which runs between Kos and Kefalos . It is about twelve kilometers as the crow flies to Kos Airport near Andimachia . In the south the next places are Marmari , Zipari and Linopotis , further in the southwest Pyli and in the west Mastichari . It is around 150 meters as the crow flies from the center of Tigaki to the sea, and around 400 meters to the salt water lake Alykes . In the north, about 3.5 kilometers above sea level, are the island of Pserimos and the uninhabited island of Platy .
Tigaki is connected by bus lines with Kos and Kefalos and the places in between.
Population and political structure, economy
Tigaki belongs to the municipality of Dikeos ( Δημοτική Ενότητα Δικαίου ) which was home to 7,130 people (2011). The district of Dikeos is divided into two districts (Asfendio and Pyli) with eight places. 4094 people lived within the Asfendio district (Δημοτική Κοινότητα Ασφενδιού) (2011), 363 of them in Tigaki.
Tigaki has changed from an agriculturally oriented village or fishing village to a holiday resort in the last few decades.
Attractions
- The Alykes salt lake is easily accessible by vehicle from Tigaki . Some objects from the former saltworks are still preserved.
- Tigaki Beach and Lambi Beach are two sandy beaches that are popular with families with young children.
