River course

The Zna has its source around 15 km northwest of Rschaksa in the southern part of Tambov Oblast . It flows first in a northerly direction and reaches Tambov , where it is a popular destination. After the confluence of the Tschelnowaja around 60 km north of Tambov, the Zna describes a wide left curve until shortly before Morschansk . Here it takes up the Kashma and flows on through the northern area of the Tambov Oblast.

Around 20 km south of Shazk , the Zna reaches the Ryazan Oblast , the southeast of which it initially continues to flow northwards. 10 km after the confluence of the Shacha , it describes another wide left curve until shortly before Sassowo . After another 20 km it flows into the mokscha.

use

The Zna is navigable for 47 km during the ice-free period from the end of November / beginning of December to the end of March / beginning of April and is used, among other things, with hovercraft for passenger transport. Ships went to Tambov in the Soviet Union .

The Zna is a calm, gently meandering river with numerous oxbow lakes , which is used for fishing and as a destination as well as for raft trips.

Below Tambows, the Zna is dammed up by several dams for electricity generation.
