Zoe Perry

Zoe Perry (born September 26, 1983 ) is an American actress . She is best known for her role as Mary Cooper in the television series Young Sheldon .

Career

Perry's parents are actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry . Her first two television roles were as the young Jackie Harris, who was her mother's personification, in flashbacks of the ABC sitcom Roseanne . However, her parents did not want her to work as an actress at a young age because they wanted to avoid stress. Perry once said that in high school she was too shy to act. She started acting at Northwestern University as she saw it as a way to make friends after moving to Boston University .

After graduation, Perry moved to New York to find a job in television. She played small roles in series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent . Due to homesickness, she moved back to California and started acting in the theater . In 2013, she starred alongside her mother in The Other Place on Broadway .

Perry appeared in nine episodes of the ABC thriller The Family in 2016 . In 2017 she took on a recurring role alongside her father in the ABC political thriller Scandal . That same year she got the role of Sheldon Cooper's mother Mary in Young Sheldon , a spin-off from the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory . In doing so, she takes on the role that her mother plays in the regular series. Despite her family connection with the role, she received it at an audition.
