Zoltán "Zoli" Téglás (born November 10, 1969 in California ) is an American singer of Hungarian descent. He is the singer of the band Ocean Hills and was a member of the bands Ignite and Pennywise .

Life

Téglá's father emigrated from Hungary to the United States after World War II , and his mother followed suit in the 1960s. Zoltán Téglá grew up in Veresegyház in Hungary and speaks fluent English and Hungarian . His musical influences included hard rock bands such as Kiss , Van Halen , Led Zeppelin , the Scorpions and AC / DC . It wasn't until the late 1980s that he got into hardcore and punk . Téglás is married and has one child.

In 1994 Téglás joined the band Ignite and made his debut a year later on the band's second studio album, which was released in Europe under the name Family and in North America under the name Call on My Brothers . Two more studio albums followed. In 2009 Téglás helped out with the band Pennywise after their singer Jim Lindberg left the band. In February 2010 Téglás became a permanent member of Pennywise and two years later released the album All or Nothing with the band . At that time, Téglás was suffering from severe back pain and had to undergo emergency surgery in the summer of 2012. Téglás left Pennywise in October 2012 after Jim Lindberg returned. He also sings in Ignite's parallel project in the Zoli Band .

In the autumn of 2000 Téglás helped out for some concerts with the punk band Misfits after their singer Michale Graves left the band. In 2006 Téglás contributed backing vocals to the song God Was Never on Your Side on the Motörhead album Kiss of Death and to the song Lost in Time by the Hungarian metalcore band Blind Myself . A year later, Téglá's guest appearance on the song by the Hungarian band Hungarica caused a controversy. Hungarica are known in their home country for their nationalist and anti-Semitic attitudes. In retrospect, Téglás distanced himself from any nationalist sentiment.

Zoltán Téglás is a vegetarian and is committed to animal welfare . With his band Ignite he supports the marine conservation organization Sea Shepherd . Together with his brother Michael Téglás, who works full-time as a veterinarian , he runs the Pelican Rescue Team . In the spring of 2010, Téglás managed to close a restaurant in Santa Monica that illegally sells whale meat .

On November 25, 2019, Téglás announced his departure from Ignite after 25 years. He then formed a new band with Ocean Hills.
