Sopoten is a district of the city of Saalburg-Ebersdorf in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

Sopoten is around 500  m above sea level. NN on a plateau of the southeast Thuringian slate mountains directly on wooded slopes to the Bleiloch reservoir . The L 1096 from Saalburg over the Saale bridge to Sopoten past the village brings good connections to the surrounding area. Geologically assessed, these soils are rich in humus and enriched with a high proportion of fine soil, which is a good prerequisite for stable yields.

With the lines 610 and 620 of the KomBus transport company , Sopoten has connections to the cities of Schleiz , Bad Lobenstein , Lehesten , Naila and Ziegenrück .

Neighboring towns to the west are the town of Ebersdorf and Friesau , to the north Röppisch and to the east Pöritzsch and the town of Saalburg.

history

Sopoten was first mentioned in a document on August 14, 1325.

It has been handed down that two estates used to be the predecessors of the village. The trade route from Nuremberg to Leipzig once passed here via Saalburg.

The village has 262 residents (January 1, 2016). The agricultural place is particularly dedicated to the holidaymakers in the countryside and on the Saale.
