Zugol ( Russian Цуго́л , Buryat Сүүгэл ) is a village in the Siberian region of Transbaikalia in Russia with 845 inhabitants (2017).

geography

The place is about 200 km southeast of the regional administrative center Tschita on the river Zugol, which flows into the river Onon about one kilometer east from the left . It belongs to the Mogoituiski Rajon of the Agin Buryats Autonomous Okrug , is located a good 50 km southeast of the Mogoitui Rajon center and is the seat and only village of the rural community of the same name (selskoje posselenije Zugol).

There is a road connection to the federal highway A350 , which passes around nine kilometers southwest of Ononsk and connects Chita with the border with the People's Republic of China near Sabaikalsk . Twelve kilometers to the south is the nearest railway station, Olowjannaya, on the Karymskaya  - Sabaikalsk line.

history

Since 1801 there was a dazan in place of the later town , initially consisting of yurts . The village was founded in 1826, and the first permanent structures of the Dazan were built between 1827 and 1854. The oldest parts of the monastery preserved today date from the end of the 19th century.

West of Zugol, the main part of the international military maneuver Vostok-2018 took place in September 2018 at the 247th military training area ( 247-й межвидовой полигон ) .
