Mogoitui ( Russian Могойтуй ) is an urban-type settlement in the Transbaikalia region ( Russia ) with 10,231 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located in Transbaikalia on the southern flank of the Mogoitui Mountains , about 130 kilometers as the crow flies southeast of the regional capital Chita . A river of the same name flows through the settlement and flows a few kilometers south into the Aga , a left tributary of the Onon in the Amur river system .
Mogoitui is the administrative center of the Mogoitui Rajon of the same name , which until March 1, 2008 was one of the three Rajons of the Agin Buryat Autonomous District . Even after the rise of the Autonomous Okrug, these Rajons retained a special status. Mogoitui is a good 30 kilometers to the northeast from the former administrative center of the Aginskoye Autonomous Okrug .
history
The place arose in connection with the construction of the Chinese Eastern Railway , which connects to the Transbaikal section of the Trans-Siberian Railway, from 1897 as a station settlement. The line and station were opened on October 25, 1901; the place was officially founded in 1907. The place name is derived from the Buryat name mogoi for a place rich in snakes. An upswing after the settlement in the 1910s, after a road was built from Mogoitui as the closest train station to Aginskoye, the center of the Buryat population in the area.
A kolkhoz was founded in the 1930s ; on December 8, 1942, Mogoitui became the administrative center of a newly created Rajon. In 1947 a small power station was built and the construction of an oil mill began. The population of the place grew steadily, and on December 1, 1966, the status of urban-type settlement was given.

culture and education
Mogoitui is one of the Buryat cultural centers in the region. Among other things, there is a branch of the East Siberian State Technological University Ulan-Ude and an agricultural vocational school.
Economy and Infrastructure
In Mogoitui is on the of the Trans-Baikal Railway operated railway Karymskaja - Zabaikalsk that the main line of the Trans-Siberian Railway with the border with the People's Republic of China combines (6371 line km from Moscow ). The station is the most important for rail traffic in the former Agin Buryat Autonomous Okrug. Various transport, supply and trading facilities therefore play a major role in the local economy. There are also companies in the food and construction industries.
The railway line is crossed in Mogoitui by the A166 highway , which also connects Chita with the Chinese border near Sabaikalsk. From this the regional road R426 branches off , which leads through the north-eastern part of the Rajon to Pervomaiski and into the cities of Schilka , Nerchinsk and Sretensk in the valley of the Schilka .
