Solotorechensk ( Russian Золоторе́ченск ) is an urban-type settlement in the Transbaikalia region in Russia with 1,442 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 250 km as the crow flies east-southeast of the regional capital Chita north of the almost 1,400 m high Kukulbei ridge.
Solotorechensk belongs to the Olowjanninsky Rajon and is located a good 80 km east of its administrative center Olowjannaya . It is the seat and only locality of the municipality Solotorechenskoje gorodskoje posselenije.
history
The settlement was founded in 1986 in connection with the beginning of the construction of a mining operation, which was to mine the recently discovered Amazonite and Amazonite granite deposits Etykinskoye as well as various ore deposits ( tungsten , bismuth , molybdenum ) in the area. Solotechensk has had the status of an urban-type settlement since 1988.
As a result of the economic crisis after the collapse of the Soviet Union , the plans were not realized: the mining operation was not opened and the construction of an already partially completed railway line from Khada-Bulak to Solotechensk was discontinued and the tracks were dismantled. As a result, over three quarters of the residents who had already settled there have since left the place.
