Krasny Tschikoi ( Russian Кра́сный Чико́й ) is a village (selo) in the Transbaikalia region in Russia with 7063 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is located about 380 km as the crow flies southeast of the regional capital Chita south of the almost 1500  m high Malchan ridge (Malchanski chrebet) on the right bank of the Selenga tributary Chikoi .

Krasny Chikoy River is the administrative center of the Rajons Krasnotschikoiski and seat and only town in the rural community Krasnotschikoiskoje selskoje posselenije.

history

The village was founded in 1670 as the first village on the Chikoi by Russians advancing eastwards . Later also settled Buryat also a larger number of from the western parts of of, 1754 Russian Empire originating members of the Old Believers community of faith semeiskie . In 1926 the village became the administrative seat of a Rajon and in 1933 it was given its current name; at the same time the Rajon was renamed.

The regional road R425 passes a few kilometers east of the village, which branches off the M55 road a good 120 km north at Baljaga (also a station of the Trans-Siberian Railway ), not far from the city of Petrowsk-Sabaikalsky , and from Krasny Chikoi the right Chikoi bank a good 110 km up to Jamarowka .
