Priiskowy ( Russian Прииско́вый ) is an urban-type settlement in the Transbaikalia region in Russia with 1520 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is a good 210 km as the crow flies east of the regional capital Chita on the left bank of the Schilka, immediately above the confluence of the left tributary Nertscha , north of the Borschtschowotschnygebirge .
Priiskowy belongs to Rajon Nertschinski and is located approximately 7 kilometers south of the administrative center Nertschinsk . The settlement is the seat of the municipality of Priiskowskoje gorodskoje posselenije, which also includes the villages Kalinino (3 km southeast) and Schiwki (6 km east), both on the opposite bank of the Shilka.
history
Not far from where it is today, on the left bank of the Nertscha, the Nertschinsk Ostrog was built in 1658 on what was then an island . The smaller district of Stary Gorod ("Old Town") is located there today. Around 1700, the settlement and trading center moved further up the Nercha, where the city of Nerchinsk was established. The settlement at the mouth of the Nertscha was named Baronka and lost its importance until the Trans-Siberian Railway was passed by in 1898 . The station was named Priiskowaja because from there the gold mining area around Balei on the other side of the Borschtschowotschnykamm could be reached, from Russian priisk for a type of mining enterprise, especially for precious metals and stones. Since 1959 Priiskowy has the status of an urban-type settlement.
