Arbagar ( Russian Арбага́р ) is an urban-type settlement in the Transbaikalia region in Russia with 554 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 190 km as the crow flies east of the regional capital Chita, a few kilometers from the left bank of the Schilka , north of the Borschtschowotschnygebirge .
Arbagar belongs to Rajon Schilkinski and is located about 20 km northeast from its administrative center Shilka . The settlement is part of the municipality of Cholbonskoje gorodskoje posselenije, the administrative seat of which is Cholbon 5 km to the southwest.
history
The settlement was created around 1910 in connection with the beginning of the mining of a coal deposit, on the basis of which a thermal power plant was operated near Cholbon from 1933 . Since 1951 Arbagar has had the status of an urban-type settlement. In 1972 coal production was stopped, and in 1973 the power plant was taken out of service. Since then the population of the place has continuously decreased.

Regional road 76A-008 (formerly on this section R426) passes between Arbagar and Cholbon, which , coming from Mogoitui via Shilka, continues via Nerchinsk and Sretensk to Nerchinsky Sawod and Olotschi on the border with the People's Republic of China .
When the coal mines were in operation until 1972, they were connected to the Cholbon power station by a narrow-gauge railway. In Cholbon there is a station of the Trans-Siberian Railway (km 6459 from Moscow ).
