Atamanowka ( Russian Атама́новка ) is an urban-type settlement in the Transbaikalia region ( Russia ) with 10,381 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located about 15 kilometers as the crow flies southeast of the center of the regional capital Chita , on the left bank of the Amur source river Ingoda , in the area of its breakthrough valley through the main ridge of the Tscherski Mountains , below the confluence of the Nikischicha tributary. On both sides of the river valley, the wooded peaks of the low mountain range rise to around 1100 m .
Atamanowka belongs to the Chitinsky district . The settlement forms a municipality (gorodskoje posselenije), to which no other localities belong.
history
The place was founded in 1852 by Cossacks as part of Stanitsa Titovskaya (today part of Chita) belonging settlement Atamanowski . The name is derived from the Cossack military denomination of Ataman . In 1900 the Trans-Siberian Railway passed the site and the Atamanowka station opened.
In 1958 Atamanowka received the status of an urban-type settlement under its current name.

Economy and Infrastructure
The largest company in the village is an apple cultivation company founded in 1927, which benefits from the relatively sheltered climate of the Ingoda Valley. There are also companies in the construction industry. In the Soviet period there was a tank repair plant in the place. Today Atamanowka is also a residential and recreational suburb of the city of Chita.
The Transbaikal section of the Trans-Siberian Railway (km 6214 from Moscow ) and the A166 highway , which connects Chita with the border with the People's Republic of China near Sabaikalsk, run through Atamanowka .
