Zulema Arenas (born November 15, 1995 ) is a Peruvian middle distance and obstacle runner .

Athletic career

In 2011, Zulema Arenas took part for the first time in a major international event, the Cross-Country South American Championships in Asunción , where she won gold medals in individual and team competitions in the youth competition. At the Junior South American Championships in Medellín , she won the silver medal in the 3000 meter obstacle course. In addition, she took part in the 2000 meter obstacle course at the World Youth Championships in Lille and was eliminated there in the preliminary run. In 2012 she won the bronze medal in the individual competition at the South American Cross Country Championships in Lima and gold with the Peruvian team. At the U23 South American Championships in São Paulo , she won the gold medal in the obstacle course, as well as at the Youth South American Championships in Mendoza over 2000 meters obstacle. She qualified for the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where she was eliminated in the first round.

In 2013 she finished fifth at the Juegos Bolivarianos in Trujillo in each case over 1500 meters and in the obstacle course. She then took part in the Junior South American Championships in Resistencia , where she won gold medals over 3000 meters and in the obstacle course as well as the silver medal over 1500 meters. At the South American Championships in Cartagena she was fourth with a new national record of 10: 12.72 minutes. In 2014 he won a gold and a bronze medal at the U23 South American Championships in Montevideo . A little later she took sixth place at the Junior World Championships in Eugene . At the Ibero-American Championships in São Paulo, she set a new junior South American record and won the silver medal. She won the gold medal at the Pan American Sports Festival in Mexico City . In 2016 she was Janeiro Eighth over 1500 meters at the Ibero-American Championships in Rio and won the bronze medal in her specialty. In 2017 she won the silver medal in the obstacle course and bronze over 1500 meters at the South American Championships in Luque . In November she won the gold medal in the obstacle course and the bronze medal over 1500 meters at the Juegos Bolivarianos in Santa Marta .

In 2013 she became the Peruvian champion in obstacle course.
