action
The episodal film describes a day in the life of Volodja, an assembly worker from Siberia who flies to Moscow for a day. The film begins with a small epigraph scene at a Moscow airport . The young Volodya sees a girl who is dancing to inaudible music. Casually they start a conversation:
- Are you leaving or are you arriving?
- I will pick up.
- Whom?
- My husband.
- Happy are those who are picked up.
- Get married, then you too will be picked up.
- So are you all going well?
- Very good.
- There's no such thing.
- There is, yes, there is.
Volodja is passing through Moscow: he wrote a short story that was printed in a youth magazine. The story aroused the interest of the writer Voronin, who invited him to an important conversation. In the metro , Volodya meets the metro worker Kolja, who is driving home from the night shift. Volodya plans to stay with his friends, but doesn't know the way. Kolja offers to accompany him.
Volodya is bitten by a dog on Chistoprudny Boulevard. Kolja invites him to mend his torn pants and introduces him to his family. Later it turns out that Volodya's acquaintances left Moscow for the summer. So Volodya leaves his things with Kolja and sets off.
Now Kolja, who has stayed at home, is hoping to sleep in, but suddenly gets a visit from Sascha, who has to do military service the next day . Sascha asks Kolja to go with him to the military office to ask for a grace period, since Sascha is supposed to marry his girlfriend Sweta today. After visiting the military office, the friends go to the GUM to buy a jacket for the groom. There they meet Volodya, who has just bought a new suit. Kolja suggests buying a present for the bride instead of a jacket. They go to a record store where his friend Aljona works.
