.bz is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Belize . It has existed since September 3, 1991 and is administered by the University of Belize .

properties

Registrations take place on both the second and third level. Anyone can register a .bz address, and the domain is specifically marketed as an abbreviation for business . This even led to ICANN being sued when it tried to introduce the new generic top-level domain .biz for so-called business offers, but the lawsuit was dismissed. Some South Tyrolean companies and institutions also use the domain .bz due to the appropriate abbreviation (Province of Bozen).

.Bz is often used as an alternative to .biz due to its linguistic similarity . As a result, .bz domains achieve higher prices when sold on Sedo and other platforms compared to similar top-level domains .

criteria

A .bz domain can be between three and 63 characters long. Hyphens are possible, but not in the third and fourth positions. As of 2012, internationalized domain names are not yet supported. Registration is possible for any natural or legal person ; there are no special restrictions on allocation. In particular, a residence or branch in Belize is not required.
