.sk is the country-specific top-level domain (ccTLD) for Slovakia . It was introduced by IANA on March 29, 1992 and is operated by SK-NIC with its headquarters in Bratislava . Its direct forerunner was .cs for Czechoslovakia , which was not completely shut down until the mid- 2010s along with many other obsolete TLDs.

properties

A .sk domain can be between three and 60 characters long and it usually takes between two and four days. Internationalized domain names are currently unusable, so only alphanumeric characters in Latin script can be used. Compared to some other ccTLDs, domain owners had to have a place of residence or a branch in Slovakia, which was also strictly checked by the registry. In the course of Slovakia 's accession to the EU , numerous domain registrars started to enable the connection via a trustee . A third person based in the country was entered pro forma in the Whois directory. Since September 1, 2017, a place of residence or a company seat within the EU or EFTA is sufficient.
