properties

There are numerous second-level domains such as .net.sa or .org.sa that are reserved for certain organizations. In December 2010, the registry relaxed the criteria for .sa so that domains can now also be registered directly on the second level. At that time, around 21,000 .sa domains were registered. The so-called sunrise phase , in which owners of existing .sa domains could apply preferentially for the new short addresses, began in January 2011. Despite the liberalization , the registry only allows private individuals and companies based in Saudi Arabia to register a .sa domain. Exceptions are only made for foreigners with a Saudi passport or holders of a trademark registered in Saudi Arabia . The top-level domain has been supporting internationalized domain names since 2004 , the technical implementation of which was implemented in a pilot project with the administrations of .ae ( United Arab Emirates ) and .qa ( Qatar ).
