.kp

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.kp is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for North Korea . The domain was set up on September 24, 2007 based on an official request from the country to ICANN and management was assigned to the Korea Computer Center .

history

In 2007, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers officially announced that it had received a request to assign the top-level domain for the first time. Up to this point, .kp was one of the few addresses that were officially reserved but not actively used. By a resolution of the ICANN on September 11, 2007, the top-level domain or its administration was finally formally assigned to the Korea Computer Center . The technical contact person was the Berlin-based company KCC Europe . Although a total of seven second-level domains were set up, no .kp domains could be registered. In the period that followed, some addresses were registered, but they were only used within the Korean Internet and could not be reached internationally. However, these were taken out of service at the end of 2010 for technical reasons, which is why ICANN tried to install new name servers . In the course of this, the technical administration of KCC Europe was also transferred to Star Joint Venture .
