.sl is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Republic of Sierra Leone . It was introduced on May 9, 1997 and is administered by the telecommunications company Sierra Tel and the National Telecommunication Committee , respectively .

Domains can be registered since 2008, when the AFcom organization, based in Freetown, officially started operations. A .sl domain can be between four and 63 characters long and only contain alphanumeric characters . A residence or an office in Sierra Leone are not necessary to make a .sl domain to register.

In addition to .sl, there are the following second-level domains :

  • .com.sl - only for commercial ventures at home and abroad
  • .net.sl - commercial ventures at home and abroad related to information and communication
  • .org.sl - associations and non-commercial institutions and organizations in Germany
  • .edu.sl - training institutions in Germany
  • .gov.sl - national state institutions (only with the approval of the Ministry of Information)
