.ml is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Mali . It was introduced on September 29, 1993 and has since been administered by the Societe des Telecommunications du Mali ( SOTELMA for short ) with its headquarters in Bamako .

In addition to the top-level domain, there are numerous endings such as .com.ml or .net.ml , which were intended for certain interested parties. The award criteria of SOTELMA are comparatively restrictive: a residence or a branch in Mali is mandatory in order to register a .ml domain. Therefore, the ccTLD is not widely used internationally.
In February 2013, ICANN discussed a change in the registry. Results were not known until March 2013. It was not until April that the company Dot ML Registry appeared as a new registry and announced the restart of the domain for July 15, 2013. From this point on, every natural or legal person worldwide should be able to register a .ml domain, even without a presence in the country itself. Compared to other top-level domains, no fees are due for .ml domains, which is why the ccTLD is increasingly used for phishing -Websites is used. In September 2013, a total of six percent of all registered .ml domains were forcibly blocked for this reason.
