.lv is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Latvia . It was introduced on April 29, 1993 and since then has been organizationally and technically supervised by the Department of Network Solutions at the University of Latvia .

properties

An .lv domain can be between three and 63 characters long, and internationalized domain names are supported. The order is possible for any natural or legal person without special restrictions, in particular no residence or branch in the country is necessary. Interested parties are encouraged to register domains only on the second level, even if addresses below the endings .com.lv or .net.lv are still supported for historical reasons. A total of nine such generic second-level domains still exist. Addresses below .id.lv (for individual , that is, individuals) are even free.

In 2009, a new system called NIC24 was introduced which made it much easier for registrars to order .lv domains and which experts at the time described as comparatively innovative. For some time now, the registry has also supported the Extensible Provisioning Protocol , with which objects can be automatically stored in the database of the Network Information Centers . In the case of disputes over a .lv domain this can be solved by applying an official policy that at the name Uniform Domain Resolution Policy of ICANN oriented.

meaning

When trading domains via Sedo and other platforms, .lv plays a subordinate role. The most expensive .lv domain ever sold was business.lv , which changed hands in 2007 for 3,000 euros.
