(2498) Tsesevich ( 1977 QM 3 ; 1972 RE 3 ; 1975 EA 1 ; 1977 RP 3 ) is an approximately eleven kilometers large asteroid of the central main belt , which was discovered on August 23, 1977 by the Russian (then: Soviet Union ) astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych on Crimean Observatory (Nautschnyj branch) on the Crimean peninsula ( IAU code 095) was discovered. It belongs to the Koronis family, a group of asteroids named after (158) Koronis .
designation
(2498) Tsesevich was named after the Russian astronomer Wladimir Platonowitsch Zessewitsch (1907-1983) who was the director of the Odeska Astronomitschna Obserwatorija (Odessa observatory, IAU code 086). He studied the brightness of the asteroid (433) Eros and wrote a manual for amateur astronomers .
