(262876) Davidlynch is an asteroid of the main middle belt discovered by the French computer scientist and amateur astronomer Jean-Claude Merlin on January 21, 2007 at the fully automatic Ritchey-Chrétien 81 cm telescope of the Tenagra II Observatory in Nogales , Arizona ( IAU code 926 ) has been discovered. The telescope was able to head for Merlin from France when it was discovered. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had already occurred on October 1 and 7, 2005 with the provisional designation 2005 TS 53 as part of the Catalina Sky Survey .

The mean distance from the Sun ( major semi-axis ), eccentricity and inclination of the orbit plane of the asteroid roughly correspond to the Eunomia family, a group named after (15) Eunomia , to which probably five percent of the asteroids in the main belt belong.

(262876) Davidlynch was named after the American film director , composer and actor David Lynch on January 16, 2014 . Lynch's 2001 film Mulholland Drive is particularly highlighted in the dedication text .
