(40007) Vieuxtemps is an asteroid of the main middle belt , which was discovered on April 25, 1998 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809).

The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be around 6 km.

(40007) Vieuxtemps was named on October 8, 2014 after the Belgian composer Henri Vieuxtemps (1820–1881), who was one of the most important violinists of the 19th century.
