(43843) Cleynaerts is an asteroid of the central main belt discovered on July 12, 1993 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile .

The asteroid belongs to the Chloris family, a group of asteroids named after (410) Chloris .

(43843) Cleynaerts was named on November 28, 2010 after the Belgian humanist , theologian , grammarian , orientalist and Semitist Nicolaes Cleynaerts (1493–1542), whose goal in life was to bring Christianity and Islam closer together.
