(8750) Nettarufina is an asteroid of the main inner belt that was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery came about as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory .

(8750) Nettarufina is after Pochard named, whose scientific name Netta rufina is. At the time the asteroid was named on February 2, 1999, the pochard was on the Dutch Red List of Endangered Species .
