(9565) Tikhonov is an asteroid of the main inner belt , which was discovered by the Soviet astronomer Lyudmila Tschernych on September 18, 1987 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).
The asteroid belongs to the Vesta family , a large group of asteroids named after (4) Vesta , the second largest asteroid and third largest celestial body in the main belt. The timeless (non- osculating ) orbital elements of (9565) Tikhonov are almost identical to those of five smaller ones, if one considers the absolute brightness of 16.2, 15.7, 16.0, 17.0 and 17.7 compared to 13, 8, asteroids: (90400) 2003 YS 26 , (98052) 2000 RX 34 , (102342) 1999 TO 120 , (185010) 2006 PR 31 and (357534) 2004 RO 186 .
(9565) Tikhonov was named on June 24, 2002 after the Russian mathematician Andrei Nikolajewitsch Tichonow .
