Áxel Wilfredo Werner (born February 28, 1996 in Rafaela ) is an Argentine football goalkeeper .

Career

society

Werner began his career at his hometown club Atlético de Rafaela . He switched from the U19 to the 1st team on July 1st, 2014. On October 3rd, 2015 Werner made his debut in the Primera División , the highest league in Argentina. In this 1-1 draw against Arsenal de Sarandí , he played for the entire season. He made a total of 11 games for Atlético de Rafaela in the Primera División.

In the summer of 2016 Werner moved to Spain to Atlético Madrid . Less than a month later, he was loaned to the Boca Juniors in Argentina . This loan lasted until June 30, 2017. During this time Werner played two games for the Boca Juniors in the top Argentinian league, and at the end of the 2016/2017 season he was champion with the Boca Juniors.

After the loan expired, he returned to Atlético Madrid. His current contract runs there until June 30, 2021. In July 2018, he was awarded to the league competitor SD Huesca .

National team

With the shirt number 12 Werner participated in the U-17 World Cup in 2013 in the United Arab Emirates. He played 1 game, namely the game for 3rd place against the U17s from Sweden , which was lost 4-1.

In July 2016 Werner was appointed to the squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics . The actual backup goalkeeper Augusto Batalla was not released from his club CA River Plate for the tournament. Werner moved up as the second goalkeeper behind Gerónimo Rulli . Here he was again the number 12, but remained without action and was eliminated with Argentina in the group stage.
