description

In the 12th century a chapel was built by the Benedictine Abbey of Saalfeld on the Aegidienhügel, which was later converted into a fortified church and expanded. In 1873 the church had to be demolished because it was in disrepair . The neo-Gothic , stone-facing hall church covered with a gable roof was built in place of the previous church that had been demolished. It was consecrated on September 1, 1875.

The rectangular nave has a recessed choir with a 5/8 end and in the west the church tower , which carries a slate-covered pointed tent roof , which is flanked by four small pointed turrets. In the tower there are three bells , the big bell from the earlier church from 1757, cast by Chr. Solomon Graulich, the middle bell from 1892, cast by the Ulrich brothers and the small bell from 2007, cast by the Bachert bell foundry .

The interior has an open, decoratively designed roof structure , the choir is spanned by a ribbed vault. The winged altar , which was last preserved in 1984 and comes from the old church, was created around 1500 and is attributed to the master of the Meckfeld altar. The shrine has a relief showing the entombment . St. Barbara and St. Wolfgang are painted on the left of the wings, and St. Aegidius and St. Catherine are painted on the right . When closed, the Annunciation and an adoration scene are shown. The predella has painted heads of the apostles .

Next to the altar, a baptismal angel from the 17th century and various sacred implements have been preserved from the earlier church . The church furnishings are neo-Gothic.

The organ with 13 registers , divided into two manuals and a pedal , was built by Adam Eifert around 1875 . In 1991/92 the church was renovated.
