Éric de Moulins-Beaufort (born January 30, 1962 in Landau in the Palatinate ) is a French clergyman, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Reims and chairman of the French Bishops' Conference .

Life

Éric de Moulins-Beaufort was born in Landau in the Palatinate in 1962, as his father Jean-Louis de Moulins-Beaufort was stationed there as a French officer . After studying politics at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and economics at the University of Paris II , he began to study Catholic theology in Brussels in 1985 . He continued his studies in Rome in 1990 and earned a doctorate in theology. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Paris on June 29, 1991 . From 1992 to 2000 he was responsible for the seminary in Paris, then pastor in the parish of Saint Paul-Saint Louis. In 2005 Archbishop André Vingt-Trois made him his personal secretary. He has also taught Catholic theology in Paris since 1992.

On May 21, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as titular bishop of Cresima and auxiliary bishop in Paris. He received his episcopal ordination on September 5, 2008 in the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral by Archbishop André Cardinal Vingt-Trois. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Versailles , Éric Aumonier , the Bishop of Saint-Denis , Olivier de Berranger IdP , and the Bishop of Pontoise , Jean-Yves Riocreux , and the Archbishop of Rennes , Pierre d'Ornellas .

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Reims on August 18, 2018. The inauguration took place on October 28 of the same year.

In 2019 he succeeded Georges Pontier as the new chairman of the French Bishops' Conference, and his term of office began on July 1 of the same year.
