With the exception of PostBus and the St. Gallen public transport company, all bus companies are private companies.

Apart from the PostBus , the bus companies most used in the canton of St. Gallen are the St. Gallen public transport company, followed by BUS Ostschweiz , to which BUS Sarganserland Werdenberg , RTB Rheintal Bus and WilMobil belong.

Subcontractors are also on order for PostBus. The subcontractors usually have their own drivers and vehicles that drive in the livery of the Postbus.

    Cable car and ship traffic

The Unterterzen-Tannenbodenalp cable car is the only cable car to provide regional transport services. In turn, the Walensee shipping company ensures the connection to the village of Quinten, which cannot be reached by other means of transport .

The other cable cars and shipping lines in the canton are used for tourist traffic, they do not fulfill any function in regional traffic.

    Local traffic

In some municipalities there is local traffic, these are services ordered by the respective municipalities. The local traffic of the city of St. Gallen, which is carried out by the transport companies of the city of St. Gallen, should be emphasized. Some municipalities also license local buses, for example in Flawil (service provider: PostBus) or in St. Gallenkappel (service provider: Waespi Reisen).
