İsmail Koçman

İsmail Koçman (* 1943 in Karasu , Sakarya Province ; † August 11, 2013 ) was a Turkish general of the army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) who, among other things, was the commander of the armed forces of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC Güvenlik Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı) between 1994 and 1996 , from 2006 to 2007 commander of the 3rd Army (Üçüncü Ordu) and most recently between 2007 and 2008 commander of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) .

Life

After attending school, Koçman began an officer training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) , which he completed in 1962. After graduating from the artillery school (Topçu Okulu) in 1963, he found employment as an officer in various army units and was successively platoon commander , company commander and battery commander before he attended the staff training course at the Army Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ) from 1973 to 1975 . He then stayed as a teaching officer at the Army Academy and then became Chief of Staff of the Occupation Forces in Cyprus KTBK ( Kıbrıs Türk Barış Kuvvetleri ). He then found employment as head of department for courses in the subdivision for organization and training in the General Staff of Turkey and as the commander of the Maltepe Kadettenanstalt (Maltepe Askerî Lisesi) founded in 1928 . After a subsequent assignment as commander of the 197th Infantry Regiment belonging to the 2nd Infantry Division, he became head of the personnel department of the 1st Army. He was then Chief of Staff of the VIII. Corps and then deputy commander of the 28th Motorized Infantry Brigade.

After his promotion to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) Koçman became deputy head of the training department in the Army Headquarters in 1992 and on August 19, 1994 successor to Brigadier General Yaşar Spor as commander of the armed forces of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC Güvenlik Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı) . He held this post until August 25, 1996, after which he was replaced by Brigadier General Hasan Peker Günal . In 1996 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and initially took over the post of Chief of Staff of the Army Academy and then in 1998 as Commander of the School and Training Center for Equipment and Finance (Levazım Maliye Okulu ve Eğitim Merkezi Komutanlığı) .

After KOCMAN 2000 to Lieutenant General (Korgeneral) had been promoted, he became commanding general of the 3rd Army belonging IX. Corps (IX. Kolordu) in Erzurum and then in 2002 head of the evaluation and audit department at the headquarters of the army. After his promotion to general (Orgeneral) he was in 2004 commander of the training and training command EDOK (Eğitim ve Doktrin Komutanlığı) . Then he replaced General Orhan Yöney as commander of the 3rd Army (Üçüncü Ordu) in Erzincan on August 30, 2006 , which is responsible for protecting the national borders with Armenia and Georgia and to which the VIII. Most recently General Koçman succeeded Fethi Remzi Tuncel as commander of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) stationed in Istanbul's Selimiye barracks on August 17, 2007 , which is responsible for securing the borders with Greece and Bulgaria as well as the strategically important straits of the Bosphorus and Dardanelles is responsible and to which the II. Corps in Gelibolu , the III. Corps in Şişli and the V Corps in Çorlu belong. In this post he was replaced on August 22, 2008 by General Ergin Saygun , before he was finally adopted on August 30, 2008 into retirement.
